Keynote Depending on who you talk with, AI is the salvation or complete downfall of the legal profession as we know it. However, as eDiscovery professionals, we’ve been successfully navigating the promises and limitations of AI for years, and thankfully, the rest of the legal profession is beginning to recognize the power it can bring to the table. The challenge is keeping up with the deluge of information and all the mind-numbing changes in technology. Let’s break down exactly how we can effectively utilize AI and GenAI tools in eDiscovery, and even more importantly, how to explain what we’re doing to lawyers and clients (and how it all helps them!). Cloud Seeding: Integrating Legal Teams in Agile Change Management Technology change management has become a vital piece of managing cloud collaboration platforms. Updates offering AI integration, security enhancements and new application integration are rolling out weekly for many of these platforms. Microsoft released nearly 400 updates for Copilot alone in 2024. The problem for legal professionals is that there is rarely change management for the teams in charge of eDiscovery, compliance, data collection or litigation holds. This presentation will focus on strategies for staying ahead of changes in collaboration platforms such as M365 and Google Suite for legal teams dealing with rapidly changing environments. Maximizing the Impact of Your Most Critical Evidence Learn strategies for identifying and curating your most impactful evidence from collection, through review, and on to presentation at a trial, hearing, or arbitration. Effectively managing documents within an ediscovery database is crucial for achieving your ultimate litigation goal, which is to tell a compelling story. Documents, images, or emails that will be vital in depositions or discussions with opposing counsel need to be targeted and tagged categorically. The real magic happens when you tie those files to the facts, issues, and people at the heart of a litigation matter, and build a well-supported case chronology and visual, graphic timeline. |

2:15 PM – 3:15 PM |
Managing eDiscovery in Smaller Matters There are considerations to be most effective for smaller matters where there is the opportunity to still deploy technology tools and reliable processes while scaling to an appropriate size and cost model. The Sedona Conference issued a Primer on the Small Case model to offer guidance and best practices. When dealing with smaller quantities or less complex varieties of electronically stored information (ESI) or in which the smaller stakes involved significantly limit the time and money can and should be spent on eDiscovery. Practical Uses of GenAI in eDiscovery With possibilities being seemingly endless, this session will provide examples of the practical uses of AI tools. While the use of large language models (LLMs) requires purpose and forethought, AI can excel in practical applications to streamline workflows. AI-driven tools can improve accuracy while reducing costs, along with strategies for ethical and regulatory compliance. There can be challenges in determining the best approach for each project or situation, and with LLMs, knowing how to evaluate the situation is crucial. Courtesy of altumatim |
